Spring 2023 Newsletter
President’s Letter
After a long winter, spring has sprung. During this past year, we have undertaken several projects. We hope you have noticed the new banners that have been installed along lakeside, as well as the new sign at the beach (thanks to Armstrong Cable for installing banners and to Willow Creek for the sign and the Borough for installation).
For 2023, we are hoping to build a new bulletin board. We will also be sponsoring a Witches Paddle later in the fall (more info coming on this event). We are continuing to sponsor a number of lakeside family concerts this summer. Advise us of any projects, or programs that you would like us to consider doing.
This year we are emailing our Lakeside Lines to those we have emails for (you may request a hard copy) For those without emails, we have mailed a hard copy. We are also creating a Lakeside Association web page, so check your email for this announcement soon!
Cottage Tour
This year we had a very successful fundraiser for the Association in our Cottage Tour and Adirondack chair silent auction., netting $4,500. We’ll use these funds for our projects and to support local non-profits (Edinboro Fire Department, Parks & Rec, etc). A lot of work goes into the tour in large part to David Mussett’s leadership. David has decided to leave our Board after many years of service to us. We thank David for his energy and strong leadership he has given to us.
Summer Beach Concerts
Three free summer concerts were held on Crawford Beach. Each was very well attended. Four are already scheduled for 2023. Whether you are permanent residents, here for a weekend or the summer or joining daily festivities, we welcome you to come explore our community and all it has to offer!
Lakeside Drive Banners
New banners depicting lakeside activities were created and hung along Lakeside Drive. These flags will be rotated yearly along the drive and removed annually during the winter months.
Pumpkin Promenade
The idea for our Lakeside Pumpkin Promenade grew from a board member’s love of pumpkins and community. Our gathering was on the first Monday of October at Vanco Farm to choose our treasures of pumpkins, gourds, and squash. Then to Crawford Beach to line the sidewalk. People from all over added their special creations throughout October, many placed during Homecoming Weekend. Admirers walked along the promenade to see the wonder of it all. The Pumpkin Promenade totaled well over 100 creations of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Please continue to join in our celebration of pumpkins and community along our beautiful Edinboro Lake during October 2023. Weather permitting, we will meet again at Vanco Farm on Monday October 2, 2023 at 10AM to continue the tradition. A big thank you to Vanco Farm and board member, Jonella Roundtree!
Christmas Lights
Thousands of tiny lights shimmered along the lake walk this Christmas for all to see! Thanks to the many volunteers who helped wrap the trees and the trim the sidewalk with holiday sparkles.
EDINBORO COMMUNITY EVENTS — 2023
The Edinboro Triathlon Finale is Coming!
Spring has sprung, and that means Edinboro’s triathlon will be here before we know it!
What: The 35th Edinboro Triathlon, Presented by PNC Bank – The Finale
When: Saturday morning, June 3rd, 2023; race begins at 8:30AM
Where: Athletes begin and end at Pat Crawford Beach. Complete maps and guidelines may be viewed online at http://edinborotriathlon.blog
The Edinboro Triathlon is a USA Triathlon Sanctioned event, which gives athletes a chance to qualify for the USAT Age Group Nationals event held in August!
Thanks to the efforts of many, Edinboro’s triathlon has a long history of being a high-quality, well-run, well-supported, and safe event.
To quote Isaac Asimov, “It lasted for a long time, I believe. A very long time. It was a great success, but even great successes come to a natural end.”
After much thought, brainstorming, some hard realistic observations and reflective conversations with key people associated with the Edinboro Triathlon since its very beginnings in 1986, we’ve come again and again to the same conclusion - the time has come to give The Edinboro Triathlon the send-off it deserves. The 35th Edinboro Triathlon will be the last.
Our team is grateful to all who have participated with us at The Edinboro Triathlon for what ended up being “bonus years”; since we first took over for the 2019 edition. Thank you in advance for your cheers and support for the ET Finale. Saturday, June 3rd will be a great day!

Edinboro Lake Watershed Association (ELWA)
This year, ELWA is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The mission of the ELWA is to restore, protect, enhance, and support sustainable development of the Edinboro Lake watershed.
What does that mean? ELWA creates and plans to ensure the continual improvement of water quality in the Edinboro Lake watershed - that means keeping our water safe to boat, fish, swim, and play in!
ELWA also helps raise public awareness of the recreational, cultural, and environmental resources of the watershed. For example - did you know there are several “ship” wrecks in Edinboro Lake?! (You could learn more about these and other historical treasures related to the Lake from local experts.
Over the last 20 years, the ELWA has achieved so much - with the help of residents, landowners, businesses, non-profit organizations, and local municipalities. These accomplishments include:
— A Pennsylvania Growing Greener grant-funded project to design and install stormwater Best Management Practices on the campus of General McLane High School and Middle School.
— A Pennsylvania Growing Greener grant-funded project to develop an Edinboro Lake Management Plan which includes recommendations for improving water quality in Edinboro Lake.
— Hosting “Members Meetings” with speakers discussing the environmental value and protection of Edinboro Lake.
— Organizing several lake cleanup days to remove trash and litter.
— Annual monitoring of water-quality and environmental health within the lake and its watershed.
With help from community members like you, ELWA has made significant strides in preserving and protecting Edinboro Lake. Imagine what we could do with your help in the next 20 years!
If you’re interested in getting more involved or learning more about what we’re working on this year, please email EdinboroLake@edinboro.edu for a membership form or find us on Facebook.
