Spring 2022 Newsletter

President’s Letter

Welcome back in 2022! Even though Covid is still present and active, we are planning to continue with a number of events for this year.

The Edinboro Triathlon is Coming!

Spring has sprung, and that means Edinboro’s triathlon will be here before we know it!

What: The 34th Annual Edinboro Triathlon

When: Saturday morning, June 4th, 2022; race begins at 8:30AM (conclude by 11:30 AM)

Where: Athletes begin and end at Pat Crawford Beach. Complete maps are online.

The Edinboro Triathlon is a USA Triathlon Sanctioned event, which gives athletes a chance to qualify for the USAT Age Group Nationals event held in August!

Athletes love to see spectators out as they pass by! You can cheer, or make large signs cheering them on. Spectator participation is a large part of The Edinboro Triathlon’s tradition and is always welcomed.

Our vehicular control team, Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department, & Borough Police will work together for vehicle traffic management at major intersections, and volunteers will direct athletes.

Mark your calendars … The Annual Lakeside Yard sale is July 9 !

Our Association’s major fundraiser is the 6th biennial Tour of Homes on Sunday, August 14, 2022. We encourage you to participate in this self-guided tour of several Lakeside homes. Tickets will be available for purchase in advance beginning May 6th at the Lakeside Bagel Shop, The Cottage Rose or from any Lakeside Association Board Member for $10.00. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jukebox the day of the event for $15.00. Admission includes a brochure with addresses and a brief description of each home included on this year’s tour.

This year, immediately following the House Tour, we will have a silent auction of Adirondack chairs painted by local artists at the Jukebox. All monies generated help fund various beatification projects and Fourth of July festivities within the Lakeside community, as well as help support the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department. Come join us, as it’s sure to be a great day while supporting a great cause!

Your board has been working with Boro officials to improve our lakeside community to meet our mission to protect, preserve, and promote our Lake and surrounding areas. Thanks to the efforts of Pat Davis and Boro officials, the pumping station tanks as you come in Lakeside Drive have been painted and the area around them landscaped. Further beautification is planned for 2022 with decorative banners along Lakeside Drive, as well as trashcan surrounds to help hide and contain waste.

We also held three free summer concerts, which we plan to continue for 2022. Another goal for 2022 is to communicate faster with the community. To do so, we will provide information on our Facebook page – Edinboro Lakeside Association and for those of you who have provided emails, we will be sending community updates as well. We welcome your suggestions of any other improvements that you would like to see in the future.

Whether you are permanent residents, here for a weekend or the summer or joining daily festivities, we welcome you to come explore our community and all it has to offer!

Edinboro Lake Watershed Association
In 2023, the Edinboro Lake Watershed Association (ELWA) will celebrate its 20th anniversary.  The mission of the ELWA is to work for the restoration, protection, enhancement, and sustainable development ofthe Edinboro Lake watershed.  The ELWA seeks to accomplish this by:

— Involving citizens, landowners, businesses, non-profit organizations, and government to develop and carry out a plan to ensure the continual improvement of water quality in the Edinboro Lake watershed.

— Raising public awareness of the recreational, cultural, and environmental resources of the watershed.

— Soliciting the funds necessary to carry out its mission from appropriate public and private sources.

Highlights of the past 20 years include:

— A Pennsylvania Growing Greener grant-funded project to design and install stormwater Best Management Practices on the campus of General McLane High School and Middle School.

— A Pennsylvania Growing Greener grant-funded project to develop an Edinboro Lake Management Plan which includes recommendations for improving water quality in Edinboro Lake.

— Hosting “Members Meetings” discussing the environmental value and protection of Edinboro Lake.

— Organizing lake cleanup days to remove trash and litter from within the lake and surrounding land areas.

— Annual monitoring of water-quality and environmental health within the lake and its watershed

With your help, we’ve made significant strides in protecting and preserving Edinboro Lake.  We look forward to another 20 years of working together on behalf of the lake we love. Contact us at EdinboroLake@edinbor.edu or find us on Facebook.

Edinboro Area Recreation - Developing Good News!

Looking for something to do outside? Keep your eye on Edinboro Borough and Washington Township’s Park Systems! Both municipalities are working to bring more family friendly fun to Edinboro. So far, Washington Township has hosted a Sledding Party and an educational demonstration of Dog Mushing while the Borough is planning several summer events including a Fun Run and a Kid’s Glow Party. Together, both municipalities are looking to develop Edinboro’s recreation offerings by leveraging the community’s natural assets and improving their Park Systems. To accomplish this, the Borough and the Township are working on a joint grant application for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources that will help fund a greater Edinboro area parks and recreation plan.

To encourage exploration of our local parks, a Borough-Township Edinboro Parks Passport Program will take place this summer. Participants will be given a “passport” to collect stamps for each Edinboro area park. Once all the stamps have been collected, participants will be entered into a drawing for a gift basket. Look for more details this coming May…follow the Borough of Edinboro and Washington Township on Facebook, check both websites for activities’ updates, and feel free to call or email either municipality.
